another week, another dead line. follwing me incident with the incredible trainspotting man last week i re-assembled meself and started again. wallowng in the glory of everton's semi-final victory i was sidetracked by a comment left on me facebook page which, levelled the accusation that i don't play enough 'new' music on this broadcast. to a degree i can understand, in a perfect world i'd like to be able to find enough 'new' music to fill the whole show, but i'm sure it would drive me crackers and be detrimental to the show itself.the buzz word here-if indeed there is one- is entertainment, i wanna do a show that partially reflects the state of me head in any given week. i play the music i like and hopefully you will too, it's not easy finding enough music to fill a show without being repetitive or boring. it's not difficult either, but homing in on your favourites makes it all worthwhile.
WHAT'S LOVE GOT TO DO WITH IT?
i love 'new' music but it's getting harder and harder to keep on top of it, if i fill a quarter of the output with stuff that is new to me then i feel it's going in the right direction. sadly, i find an awful lot of 'new' guitar music i hear frightfully contrived, it is by definition a restrictive format/genre so there's only so far you can go with it before you begin to come back on yourself. a lot of it sounds like it's inhabiting the territory once occupied by the smiths, AND I FUCKIN' DESPISE THE SMITHS. so that's got that out of the way. if it was a colour, it would be beige. electronic music however seems to twist and change on a weekly basis and this fascinates me still. there's a much larger field to use and more to offer, its scope seems to beyond the realm of mossissey and the mc5. that's not to saythat we're changing tack, if i like it, it's in.
there's no criteria for my playing anything on the show, if i like it, it's in the box marked 'possible'. judging by the reactions from you lot out there i feel that you do too, which helps a lot. there aren't many dissenters, just a few really, but i seem to dwell on the negative reactions more than the positive. this is great of course, it give s me something else to think or whinge about, which can only be a good thing. so keep the comments coming thick and fast, they inadvertently shape the show you listen to. but if you don't like it, just switch off. you have the right.
this week: we overlonged it by seconds.

crash! smash! bash! ring!
once more i was ruminating on the thought that music and music folk takes itself a little too seriously. last week i briefly mentioned in passing that u2 and the kings of leon are corporate fed rock bands and little more else. despite everything that bonio may think of himself as senior world statesman, he is the lead singer in a below average, multi-billion selling, corporate rock band. that's all.
imagine if all music was released onto a level playing field and the only thing that made it any good was whether you liked it or not. each individual piece would be judged on its merits, maybe you would mull over it and draw your own conclusions. you would become the important part of the equation, wrestling your own personal taste from the tyranny of critics, journalists, disc jockeys, people like me me in fact. you would become the kingmaker in your own personal world, the arbiter of what was right and what was wrong in your own life. music fans have been hanging on the word of journalists for decades, waiting for the green light of approval in order to shape their music collections in somebody elses image. how many times have we bought a record/seen a film/subscribed to a podcast because somebody else said so only for it to be crap and a complete waste of money/time/effort?
..........glazepta was powerless to resist, as he stood before her, the brave cavalry officer strong, upright, his breeches bulging in the tropical moonlight.
